Canine Weight Management

Obesity can take a serious toll on the health of our treasured pals. Here’s a few simple tips to manage weight gain and help them live life to the fullest!

Resist Free Pouring straight from the Bag
Measure portions based on their ideal body weight, rather than their current weight. This will prevent over feeding pets that are already overweight. Our Daily Feeding Guide is located on the side of Kiwi Country bags, or at this link www.kiwicountrypet.nz/feeding-guide.

1 Metric Cup of Kiwi Country weighs 100 grams and all bags weigh 2kg. A handy hack to help be more careful with quantities is to use a Half Cup kitchen measuring scoop (instead of a 1 Cup measure). The Feeding Guide is a good start but is a guide only. Your dog’s requirements will vary depending on health, activity and their environment.

Assess Body Condition
Keep adjusting food portions based on their current body condition. The picture below gives a rough idea what the canine “ideal” looks like.

Extras Add Up
Kiwi Country is a Complete and Balanced food meaning your dog will receive all the nutrition they require without any extra meals. Be mindful of treats and nibbles of human food.

Enjoy Moving More
Any extra exercise is a great help. “Move it or lose it” applies to our canine pals just as much as it does to us and time spent with you makes their day.

Meat Protein First
Kiwi Country Grain Free contains over 60% meat in every recipe. A good quality high meat food rich with Omegas will fulfil appetites and build muscle. All dry pet foods need some carbohydrates to bind biscuits together, but meat should come first on the ingredient panel.

Here's to healthy & happy dogs,
